Mobile Coffee - An Easy Way To Enter The Coffee Business
Market
I want you to imagine this scenario. You pull up to a high traffic area in a cool looking truck. This truck is
no ordinary truck - it is equipped with technology to brew fine coffee, espresso drinks and fruit smoothies. No
longer is your business stationery - you can travel and set up anywhere you want because you are in the mobile
coffee business.
You purchased your truck from an industry leader who specializes in creating innovative designs for the truck
boxes, countertops, water tanks and enclosures for the vehicle. You've got the necessary licenses to do business in
the area. Now it's just a matter of hitting up the right locations. Business has never been more fun or
proactive.
This scenario may seem like a dream, but it accurately describes the mobile coffee business. They offer many
different strengths and weaknesses compared to traditional coffee shops and coffee franchises. Some of the
strengths that are involved are the fact that once you purchase the vehicle, you own the rights - it's your own
business.
This means there are no franchising fees, restrictive use of the brand name, or any of that. However, the
downside is there is no brand name. You're basically purchasing someone's expertise for a mobile coffee truck
design as well as some support to help you get off the ground; so you will need to know a little about the coffee
industry before starting a business such as this one. If you have a background already then you are good to go.
Additionally, there are pros and cons to being mobile as well. As a mobile coffee vendor you do not face some of
the problems that stationery coffee houses face every day. For example, businesses have been known to close simply
because of road construction in front of their store. They do not get as much walk-in traffic and soon the profits
are diminished. Or, a business next door to you that provides a bulk of your revenue could move on one day, leaving
you looking for additional income.
You do face other dilemmas with the mobile coffee business though. You can't underestimate finding a good
location to set up. In fact, it is wise to stake out several locations and get the necessary permits and permission
granted to you first before making an investment in the mobile coffee business.
Oftentimes people who think they can just set up a location are in for a shock when the location is denied to
them. They are left using locations with low traffic, or low demand, and soon go out of business. Make sure to
avoid this if you're going to invest in a mobile coffee business.
